{"id":8609,"date":"2025-09-27T19:06:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T17:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/osko-plast.pl\/2025\/09\/27\/konserwacja-sit-i-podsiewacza-po-sezonie-zniwnym\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T11:23:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T10:23:50","slug":"maintenance-of-sieves-and-grain-pan-after-harvest-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/osko-plast.pl\/en\/2025\/09\/27\/maintenance-of-sieves-and-grain-pan-after-harvest-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Maintenance of sieves and grain pan after harvest season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The end of harvest is the perfect time to take care of your combine harvester, including sieves and grain pan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper maintenance not only extends their usefulness, but also prevents costly breakdowns in the following season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contrary to appearances, many damages are not caused by natural wear and tear of the material, but by neglect \u2013 most often by leaving waste and harvest residues that absorb moisture, leading to the development of corrosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you will find two procedures \u2013 depending on whether your sieves and grain pan are only slightly dirty or require thorough cleaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I. Maintenance of sieves<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. The sieve is relatively clean<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pull sieve out and blow it out with compressed air<\/strong><br>This is essential \u2013 even small fractions of waste retain moisture and accelerate corrosion..\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check technical condition<\/strong><br>Inspect lamellas, wires and frame. If you notice any damage &#8211; repair sieve and protect the repaired elements, for example with zinc spray. This is very important &#8211; lamellas falling off during harvesting can cause damage to the combine, requiring expensive repairs and causing downtime of the combine. This is especially important for electrically controlled sieves\u00a0 \u2013 a lack of lubrication can cause sieves to work harder, consequently overloading the sieves steering engine and turning off the fuse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Store in a dry place<\/strong><br>Optimally, in a clean, well-ventilated space, away from fertilizers and moisture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. The sieve is very dirty<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A typical situation after mowing rapeseed, corn or heavily weeded crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Remove the sieves from the combine <\/strong>\u2013 as above.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wash with water (or with a surfactant, such as Dimer).<\/strong><br>It&#8217;s best to use a pressure washer. Wash in the closed position to avoid exposing louvres to additional material stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Blow out the water with compressed air<\/strong><br>Pay attention to gaps and welds.<br><br>\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>Attention!<\/strong><br><em>If you don&#8217;t remove all waste and harvest residues, it will absorb the water and corrosion will develop even faster!<\/em><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dry, inspect the condition, secure the connections and store in a dry place <\/strong>\u2013 just like with a clean sieve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>II. Maintenance of the grain pan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. The grain pan is relatively clean<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Pull grain pan out and blow it out with compressed air <\/strong>\u2013 this is a crucial step. Leftover minor impurities accumulate moisture and accelerate corrosion. In the case of grain pans, insufficient cleaning (not material wear) is the most common reason for regeneration or replacement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check technical condition<\/strong><br>Inspect step plate and frame. If necessary, regenerate the grain pan and protect the surfaces with anti-corrosion protection.
